Our Team

Our team of surgeons, led by founder and board-certified surgeon Dr. Davidson, is committed to excellence, meticulous attention to detail, and enthusiastic collaboration with the primary care veterinarians we serve

Dr. Charisse Davidson

Dr. Charisse Davidson is a Board Certified Small Animal Surgeon. She grew up in California and earned her veterinary degree from the University of California, Davis in 1996 and a master’s degree in 1998. She worked in San Diego as a general practitioner in a mixed small animal and exotic practice for four years before pursuing specialty certification in small animal surgery.

In 2001, Dr. Davidson completed a surgical internship at the Animal Specialty and Emergency Center in Los Angeles and thereafter an American College of Veterinary Surgeons–approved residency program at VetSurg, Inc. in 2004. During her residency, Dr. Davidson had the opportunity to work under some of the most accomplished surgeons in the United States in the fields of orthopedics, surgical oncology and surgical neurology. She refined her skills in surgical oncology at both the Colorado State University Animal Cancer Center and the Regional Veterinary Referral Center in Virginia. She advanced her skills in neurosurgery studying under Dr. Levasque at the Veterinary Neurology Center in Nevada. She also studied anesthesiology and pain management at the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where she focused on advanced techniques in pain control.

While living in California, Dr. Davidson founded two specialty clinics in the Los Angeles area: CM Surgical Group, a boutique small animal surgical specialty hospital, and Veterinary Specialists of the Valley, a state-of-the-art multispecialty hospital with CT and MRI on site. Dr. Davidson later sold her interest in both hospitals to move to a smaller town in Texas with her family, where she wanted to raise her children in a more family-oriented community.

Dr. Davidson’s professional interests include orthopedics and fracture repair, surgical oncology, neurosurgery and pain management. She has been TPLO certified since 2002 and is also certified in PennHIP evaluation. She has authored publications in both orthopedics and pain management, as well as textbook chapters in small animal orthopedics and avian medicine. More recently, Dr. Davidson joined the faculty of the Texas Tech School of Veterinary Medicine in Amarillo as a surgery professor, where she is teaching young veterinarians to build a solid foundation of surgical skills.

When not working, Dr. Davidson spends her time with her four children, their dogs—chocolate Lab Cookie, Pyrenees mix Freckles,  and Golden Retriever–Great Pyrenees mix Corky—their miniature donkeys Key-Donk and Sophie, and goats Moni-me and Goat-T. They enjoy camping, hiking, rock climbing, horseback riding and spending time outdoors. Dr. Davidson is looking forward to bringing specialty care to your family practice and getting to know you and your beloved pets.

Dr. Rachel Gelber

Dr. Gelber, originally from Irving, Texas, pursued her passion for veterinary medicine by first earning a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from Texas Tech University, and then her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine in 2014. During her time at A&M, she gained hands-on experience working in the Anesthesia department at the Veterinary  Teaching Hospital, where she developed a deep interest in specialized surgeries.
